"Cannibal Fetish" Actor to Appear in Disney Film After Rape, Torture Allegations

Disney is going forward with the release of a new film featuring an actor who was accused of raping and violently abusing multiple women, as well as trying to convince one to undergo a surgical procedure which would let him eat her ribs.

American actor Armie Hammer, who has been featured in such films as The Social Network (2010) and The Birth of a Nation (2016), has not been removed from upcoming Disney blockbuster Death on the Nile – and it's raising some concerns amongst moviegoers.

In January 2021, Hammer was at the centre of a scandal in which multiple women accused him of sexually assaulting them. The allegations were brought forward by one of the victims who released screenshots of messages Hammer had sent to the women between 2016 and 2020.

One of the victims later described Hammer having branded her by carving the letter A into her pelvis, as well as trying to convince her to undergo a surgical procedure to have one of her ribs removed so he could "eat it" and fulfill a cannibalism fantasy he had. The allegation was paralleled when Hammer's ex-girlfriend stated he had wanted to do something similar to her – specifically, break her rib and barbecue it.

In some of the unveiled messages, Hammer writes to one woman: "If you were next to me, I'd give you the tiniest cut, and then fall back asleep sucking on it." In another message, he says he was aroused by the thought of cutting out a woman's heart, and says "[I'm] so hard. Thinking of holding your heart in my hand and controlling it when it beats," later writing, "I am 100% a cannibal."

During one sexual encounter, a victim, known only as Effie, said she was afraid "[Hammer] was going to kill me." During an interview, Effie stated: "On April 24, 2017, Armie Hammer violently raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles,” Effie alleged during the press conference. “During which he repeatedly slapped my head against a wall bruising my face. He also committed other acts of violence against me to which I did not consent.”

Effie also said Hammer beat her feet so that she would not be able to walk or run away from him.

Hammer was dropped by his casting agency and pulled from multiple projects following the accusations, but Disney had already completed production of Death on the Nile in which Hammer stars, slotting it for a 2022 release.

Moviegoers have noticed Hammer is effectively buried in trailers for the film, but Disney apparently made no effort to cut, edit, or re-shoot scenes in which he was featured.

Hammer stars alongside Gal Gadot, Russell Brand, and Kenneth Branaugh in the film, which is set to hit theatres in February of next year.
