This Week in Male Violence

This is the next installment of 4W‘s new weekly roundup, highlighting stories on male violence across the world. You can share stories with 4WPub on Twitter, or email stories to the editor at: [email protected] if you would like them included next week.

Male violence is not a problem of individual bad actors. It is a form of global terrorism against women designed to keep us in our place our of fear, in need of “protection” from men against other men.

Women’s liberation can not be achieved unless we name the problem.

Male doctor tricks women into invasive procedures they don’t need for his own sexual gratification — at least 23 victims identified.

Manish Shah, a family practice physician in the UK, used stories of celebrity health issues, like Angelina Jolie’s mastectomy, to scare female patients into allowing invasive procedures for his own sexual gratification. He was convicted of 25 counts of sexual assault and assault by penetration.

Convicted child-molester kills estranged wife in front of their three kids

Florencio Alvarez (43) shot and killed his estranged wife, Veneranda Martinez-Gutierrez (36) in her car in front of their three children in Autin, Texas. Alvarez had previously been deported after being accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old, but somehow re-entered the States. According to Martinez-Gutierrez’s friend and neighbor, she collapsed on her daughter’s lap. The children were (physically) unharmed.

Kardell Lomas, 31, killed at 24-weeks pregnant

The body of Kardell Lomas, 31 of Brisbane, was found in the trunk of a car. She was 24 weeks pregnant. An autopsy is being conducted to determine cause of death, and her partner, a 36-year-old man, has been charged for her murder.

Freshman Tessa Majors, 18, stabbed to death during mugging

Tessa Majors, 18, a freshman Banard student, was stabbed to death during a mugging by a group of men near Columbia University. Majors managed to get herself to a security booth for help, but the guard was doing his rounds at the time. When he returned, he found her and called 911. Medics were unable to save her.

Girl, 16, abducted and gang-raped in India

According to her father, a 16-year-old girl (name not released) was abducted and gang-raped in Muzaffarnagar while on her way to a shop. Her father filed a missing person report, which led to her rescue and the arrest of two men.

Turkish women blasted with tear gas and arrested for protesting violence against women

Seven women in Turkey have been arrested and charged with “opposition to meeting and march laws”, “insulting the president” and “insulting state institutions” for participating a song and dance protest against male violence. Around 300 women gathered in Instanbul to perform the viral song “A rapist in your path”, created by Chilean group Las Tesis, which has been used by women across the world to condemn state in-action. Lyrics include:

“You are the rapist. You are the killer. It’s the cops, the judges, the state and the president,”

Insulting the President is a crime in Turkey.

Andrew Baker, 52, charged with the murder of Sarah Gatt, 40

Andrew Baker has been charged in the murder of Sarah Gatt, an Australian woman who was found in her Kensington bathtub in 2018. Police believe her body had been there for over eight months before being discovered.
